Representatives of the three Baltic States’ heritage protection institutions shared their experience in Riga
On September 4, 2025, representatives of the Department of Cultural Heritage (KPD) participated in a meeting in Riga that brought together the heads and experts of institutions responsible for cultural heritage protection from the three Baltic States.
KPD Director Vidmantas Bezaras, Director General of the Estonian National Heritage Board (Muinsuskaitseamet) Marilin Mihkelson, and Head of the Latvian National Heritage Board (Nacionālā kultūras mantojuma pārvalde) Ināra Bula, together with specialists from their institutions, exchanged experiences on pressing issues relevant to their countries.
Discussions focused on preparedness for emergency situations, the challenges of balancing renewable energy developments (wind and solar farms, dams) with heritage protection, the expansion of e-services in the heritage sector, and the progress of ongoing projects. Participants also addressed opportunities for funding and compensation for both movable and immovable cultural heritage objects, as well as the need for a revision of the Cultural Property Register, among other topics.
