Professor M. Robinson, Council of Europe Cultural Routes Expert, Visits the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture
On October 13 and 14, Professor Maike Robinson visited the Department of Cultural Heritage. Prof. Robinson is the Head of the Cultural Heritage Department at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom, Non-Executive Director for Culture at the UK National UNESCO Commission, Advisor to the UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme, and a Council of Europe Cultural Routes expert.
He met with Director Vidmantas Bezaras and specialists from the Department of Cultural Heritage (KPD), as well as representatives of Council of Europe Cultural Routes associations active in Lithuania and those seeking to join CoE Cultural Routes.
M. Robinson also met with Lithuanian representatives of the European Route of Historic Gardens and Pharmacies (Aromas Itenararium Salutis - AIS) certified by EPA GB in 2024. The meeting included members of the Lithuanian Working Group for the AIS association: the route coordinator Prof. Habil. Dr. Ona Ragažinskienė, Head of the Medicinal and Spice Plants Science Sector at the Science Department of Vytautas Magnus University Botanical Garden in Kaunas; pharmacist and museologist Zenona Šimaitienė (Lithuanian Museum of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy, LSMU); pharmacist Almyra Girdenienė (Head of "Valerijonas" Pharmacy); and pharmacist Birutė Michelkevičienė (Head of "Širdažolė" Pharmacy). M. Robinson was interested in how this route is being developed in Lithuania. Lithuania joined this CoE Cultural Route in 2024.
During the meeting, discussions covered current issues in the development of CoE Cultural Routes, Lithuania’s potential, and importance to join other CoE Cultural Routes relevant to Lithuania in which the country does not yet participate. M. Robinson sees great potential for the developement of CoE Cultural Routes in Lithuania.
