Consolidation and modernisation of cultural heritage information systems

Sources and value of project funding
The plan "New Generation Lithuania" is financed under the European Union economic recovery and resilience facility instrument NextGenerationEU.
The value is €2.96 million.

Project objective
To modernise and consolidate the information systems directly related to the protection, maintenance and updating of cultural heritage, i.e. the Heritage Registry (HR) and the Cultural Heritage Electronic Services Information System (CHESIS), in order to ensure the modern needs of users, to increase the maturity of electronic services related to the protection of movable and immovable cultural property and to improve the quality of public services.

The project addresses the problem
The two information systems currently used by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture (DCH) do not provide users with quality, modern and timely e-services and information related to the protection of movable and immovable cultural property, while they do not provide DCH professionals with automation and efficiency.

Upgrading of information systems and databases (IS/DB) and ensuring data interoperability within the framework of a partially consolidated programme of projects.

Planned results and indicators
The upgraded and consolidated information systems directly related to the protection, maintenance and updating of cultural heritage (HR and CHESIS) would increase the availability of functionalities for the public.
The developed integrations of HR and CHESIS with other state information systems will enable specialists of various state and municipal institutions and DCH staff to perform their functions using the IS capabilities.
The modernised IS will be more attractive and functional, thus attracting more users. It is expected that by 31 December 2026, the IS will be more efficient and more accessible. The number of users of the CHESIS will increase by 3% to 5476; the number of users of the HR will increase by 3% to 77 400.
