The current issues of coastal heritage in the Baltic Sea region countries were discussed in Klaipėda
On November 21-22, 2024, a specialized Coastal Heritage Working Group meeting of the Baltic Sea Region Countries' Cultural Heritage Committee, organized by the Klaipėda Territorial Division of the Department of Cultural Heritage, took place in Klaipėda. Representatives from Norway, Finland, the Åland Islands, Estonia, Poland, and Sweden, as well as specialists from the Klaipėda Territorial Division of the Department of Cultural Heritage, participated. The meeting discussed the most pressing issues of unique coastal heritage: the importance of the White Lighthouse site and the remains of the North Mole complex (unique code in the Register of Cultural Values 48289) for the city of Klaipėda, which was included in the Register of Cultural Values this year. The group also visited Nida Lighthouse and discussed the possibility of including it in the European Route of Lighthouses, while also highlighting the surrounding cultural heritage sites.
The meeting discussed the overall situation of lighthouses in all Baltic countries, coastal areas, and future prospects. It was decided to pay more attention to and share experiences between different countries regarding the preservation and management of these objects, and to prepare informational materials. The participants visited Nida Lighthouse and took part in an excursion and discussions at the Lithuanian Sea Museum, where the Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the Museum's Collections, Romualdas Adomavičius, presented the newest maritime heritage exhibition.
