The system for protecting cultural heritage objects in Lithuania

The Seimas, the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania formulate the national policy for the protection of the immovable cultural heritage, taking into consideration the assessments, analyses and proposals of the State Commission for Cultural Heritage on heritage protection experience and trends.

The Minister of Culture shall organise and be responsible for the state administration of the protection of the immovable cultural heritage. The policy and state administration of the protection of cultural heritage in Lithuania shall be implemented by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture. Municipalities also carry out certain functions of the protection of cultural heritage objects.
